Sustainable September was first co-convened by Persistence of Vision (POV) and the WA Collaboration for Sustainability in 2003.

The release of the WA State Government’s Sustainability Strategy and the WA Collaboration’s Community Sustainability Agenda provided the impetus to celebrate the many actions taken by ordinary people and forward thinking organisations all around the Western Australia.

The WA Collaboration for Sustainability is an NGO, coordinated by Alan Carter, which provides project management and seed funding for Sustainable September. The WA Collaboration is guided by a Steering Committee, represented by:

• Council of Churches
• WA Council of Social Services
• Ethnic Communities Council
• Environmental Alliance
• Unions WA

Robyn Williams of Persistence of Vision initiated Sustainable September and provides pro bono project management, facilitation and communication for sustainability.

Funded on the smell of an oily rag, this not-for-profit communication campaign draws attention to and celebrates environmental, social and economic sustainability in action. It’s been three steps forward and one step back for Sustainable September since its inception.

Now it seems that the climate is right!
